Property Description

Welcome to a truly one-of-a-kind, architect-designed container home, created as a private artist's retreat and located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, in desirable Ulster County. Constructed using one 20-foot container and two 40-foot containers, this custom residence was designed by architect John Nafziger, a student of Peter Eisenman, making this home especially appealing to those who appreciate architecture, design, and creative living spaces. The kitchen is complete with a Kraus faucet and quartz composite sink. Built with both form and function in mind, this home features Corian countertops, a custom Corian kitchen table with matching white oak dining chairs, that will remain with the home. The ladder to the loft is custom made white oak to resonate with the white oak dining chairs. Cork flooring with radiant heat on all levels of the home, including the lofts. A warmboard 7-zone heating system, provides exceptional efficiency and comfort. With approximately 6-8 inches of insulation, the home retains heat extremely well, making it ideal for year-round living or weekend escapes no matter the season. Natural light fills the space through wall-to-wall windows in every direction, creating a bright and inspiring atmosphere. The home sits elevated on cement supports that form a covered carport below. The rear patio was constructed with the intention of being enclosed as a future screened-in porch. Inside, the layout offers two lofts, two full bathrooms on opposite ends of the main level, as well as a separate home office area. A stackable washer and (gas) dryer are conveniently located in one of the baths. Another standout feature is the custom, Hinoki, Korean soaking tub, made entirely by hand, without glue or metal fasteners, using only wood joinery, creating a spa-like retreat within the home. The kitchen is outfitted with top of the line appliances, including Liebherr and ZLINE, along with custom Corian surfaces throughout. Electric stove, with convection option, and a separate gas stovetop. Both bathrooms have Hansgrohe fixtures. Additional features include the utility room on the lower level, which contains a Tankless on-demand hot water heater. There is also an additional water heater for the warm board system. Brand new, high-quality septic system. Durable Quonset-style metal roof. Corten steel siding. Elevated construction for both design and practicality. Easy access to some of the Hudson Valley's most popular destinations, including New Paltz, Woodstock, Kingston, Mohonk Preserve, and Minnewaska State Park Preserve, to name a few. Also known for hiking, this house is located close to the Gunks; which if you hike, you may know. Art, restaurants, music, and year-round tourism are just a few of the other perks of this area where this home resides. Located on a quiet and private road in Ulster County, this unique property is ideal as a full-time residence, weekend getaway, artist retreat, or Airbnb / short-term rental investment. With the continued demand for distinctive vacation rentals in the Hudson Valley and close proximity to New York City, opportunities like this are rare. A truly custom home designed for those who want something different.
